Chiropractic History
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the most popular natural, drug‐free healthcare system in the world. It is a system which helps release a serious stress from the body, known as the subluxation. A subluxation is a tiny distortion in your spinal structure that effects your nerves, muscles, energy, brain function, internal organs, discs, bones, tendons, ligaments, posture, and overall health. Stress is the cause of subluxation, for example, physical stress such as poor posture, accidents, sitting in the same position for long periods, sports injuries, and any other form physical trauma.
The Discovery of Chiropractic
Modern chiropractic was originally discovered in Davenport Iowa in 1895 by Dr. D. D. Palmer. Dr. Palmer performed a "hand treatment", as it was first called, on a deaf janitor, Mr. Harvey Lillard. Mr. Lillard had been deaf for seventeen years after an accident, but upon being "adjusted" by Dr. Palmer, his hearing was restored.
Why Choose Chiropractic?
Chiropractic helps people function better physically and emotionally. It is a unique approach to healthcare in which your chiropractor focuses on the problem and the enhancement of your body vs. the treatment of symptoms which is typical with other forms of healthcare. By releasing the stress of the body, your chiropractor helps to increase the function of your brain, strengthen your immune systems defense abilities, and improves your energy level. Chiropractors help activate your body's natural healing abilities which allows your body to function at its best.
