How often should you receive Chiropractic care?

Many patients decided to regularly visit the chiropractor for routine maintenance, and to treat or prevent a specific problem or injury. Those that make chiropractic care a regular part of their lives probably ask: how often should I visit the doctor?

The simple answer is: you should go when you feel that you need it.

Lots of chiropractors advocate once-weekly sessions, or even 3 to 5 visits over the course of 3 weeks for patients with common problems, such as back and neck pain.

However, other patients who may be suffering from complex issues such as scoliosis, muscular injuries, and digestive problems may want to check with their doctor for a custom treatment plan.

This is because basic problems like minor back and neck pain are treated in as little as a few sessions (but may take longer). Other issues, like complex scoliosis, often take return visits over the course of several years to resolve.

It all comes down to how much benefit you and your doctor see chiropractic work bringing for your unique issues.

If you’re looking into chiropractic care, you already know that a body that is properly aligned is better able to bounce back from injury than a body without proper alignment. That’s why those patients who regularly see a chiropractor often avoid injury, and have quicker recovery times.

To be sure, not everyone will benefit from the same kind of regular chiropractic care. Those with more severe issues, or with multiple problems requiring more extensive treatments, may need more visits to a chiropractor than those whose injuries, pain, or afflictions are less complex.

Physically active patients who sustain more wear and tear on their bodies may also want to modify their treatment schedules to allow for more frequent visits to a chiropractic doctor.

It’s best to set aside time, and talk to your doctor at the outset of your treatment to be sure both he/she and you understand the requirements of your treatment. Most chiropractors are willing to work with patients with tight schedules, specific financial requirements, and other issues and questions.

Consulting a chiropractor is also obviously the right choice when trying determine the different types of chiropractic preventative care that can benefit your specific issues. It may be that acupuncture, traction, or chiropractic-oriented physical therapy is the answer for you. It’s important to understand if these types of treatment will work best in the long term or short term.

Here, it’s important to remember that spinal adjustments performed by a chiropractor can boost your body’s ability to heal itself. That’s why those who advocate for chiropractic treatment point to the fact that while some doctors focus on simply eliminating pain, chiropractors focus on the underlying problems that cause it.

That’s not to say preventative care is a silver bullet for injuries, or that medical problems won’t happen to those who undergo regular chiropractic. However, those who do regularly visit a chiropractor often have a much better reaction to the injury with less time spent in pain, less problematic complications, and a better chance at recovery.

Those who do utilize regular chiropractic care often see great success in the treatment of pain, injury, and severe problems including scoliosis and muscular disorders. Why do they report success? Because the same way a patient visits a family doctor or dentist, many people regularly see a chiropractor. They also make integrate, and plan these visits alongside other medical treatments.

Once specific medical problems are reduced or eliminated, many patients opt to maintain a schedule of periodic checkups of the spine, nerves, and other musculature. Likewise, doctors of chiropractic often recognize that successive treatments may be one the most important steps to reducing and eliminating pain and recurring injuries throughout the life.

In summary, those who choose chiropractic medicine for the treatment of a variety of issues should expect to consult their doctors regarding the appropriate length of treatment. These visits should vary depending on the size and scope of the problem, and are usually flexible in nature. When in doubt, always check with your chiropractor before agreeing to a schedule of treatment, and always remember that the best time to see a chiropractor is when you feel that it’s important to your overall health and well being.

I liked how you talked about how physically active patients who sustain more wear and tear may want to visit more frequently. My friend was wondering if this was something he should do as a body builder. It makes sense that it would help to keep his body in alignment because of all of the things he puts his body through.
