DR KIM WAS MY LAST RESORT FOR VERY PAINFUL CARPEL TUNNEL AFTER SEEING A HAND SPECIALIST THAT ACTUALLY MADE IT WORSE. THE HAND SPECIALIST ADMINISTERED A SHOT IN MY WRIST TO KILL THE PAIN...WHEN THE SHOT WORE OFF 3 WEEKS LATER THE PAIN WAS VERY INTENSE AT THE WRIST, SHOT UP MY ARM INTO THE ELBOW AND ON UP MY ARM. DR KIM, GOD BLESS HIM, STOPPED THE PAIN IN MY FIRST VISIT BY MANIPULATING MY WRIST. I CONTINUE SEEING HIM ONCE A MONTH FOR ADJUSTMENTS AND I AM STILL PAIN FREE! I DIDN'T GO SEE HIM FOR THE NEUROMA IN MY LEFT FOOT, THE ALLERGIES OR THE TENSION IN MY SHOULDERS, BUT THOSE ALSO ARE NO LONGER A PROBLEM FOR ME. DR KIM HAS HELPED MY HUSBAND WITH LOWER BACK PAIN AND MY DAUGHTER THAT HAD SEVERE KNEE PROBLEMS AND "WAS" ON CRUTCHES. NOW HE IS TREATING MY SON WHO HAS 3 BULGING DISCS IN HIS NECK AND PAIN IN HIS SHOULDER...SINCE HE IS A POLICE OFFICER HE NEEDS TO BE PAIN FREE. HE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE AFTER ONLY A COUPLE OF WEEKS... THANK YOU DR KIM AND JENNIFER FOR ALL YOUR WONDERFUL WORK... MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU BOTH! --Cheryl R. Thank you, Cheryl, for allowing us to care for you and your family's health! We are so excited to be a part of the healing process for you all. "I have had back pain, specifically low back, since I can remember. It eventually just became part of my life and I disregarded it. Just after a few visits with Dr. Kim, my back felt better and there was no more continuous pain that I had become use to. Now, I come in once a month for tune-ups to keep my back in align and to help prevent my back from becoming that bad ever again." --Brian D. Thank you Brian for allowing us to care for your needs! If you or someone you know is suffering from a lower back pain, please have them contact us for a consultation. We would be happy to help! Testimonial of the Month for October 10/01/2011
"I initially went to Dr. Kim for a frozen shoulder after conventional therapy was not helping. I had immediate relief and now have no residual pain or difficulty with movement or range of motion. In addition I have experienced much greater range of motion in my neck movement...the limited motion that I had prior to therapy had slowly occurred with age over time and I didn't realize how limited it was until I experienced the much greater mobility I had thanks to Dr. Kim's care. Thanks, Dr. Kim!!" --Jeanna S. Thank you Jeanna for allowing us to care for your health needs! If you or someone you know is suffering from a frozen shoulder or a related condition, please have them contact us for a consultation. We would be happy to help! Acupuncture-What It Can Do For You 09/01/2011
Acupuncture is divided into two philosophies. The first being the Eastern idea which is a 5,000 year old Chinese system of natural healing (no drugs-no surgery) which is concerned with restoring proper energy flow to the various organs, glands and tissues of the body on the premise that most diseases are the result of malfunction due to disrupted energetics. The Western idea is the use of needles to stop pain by blocking nerve pathways, as well as, the release of your body’s own natural drugs-known as endorphins and enkephalins. In both philosophies, acupuncture treatments are typically performed by needles inserted into the channels of energy which are called meridians, located throughout the body just underneath the skin surface. Needles are left in places typically for 10-20 minutes. Very commonly acupuncture can be used with fingertip pressure, electrical stimulation, and numerous other techniques which do not involve using a needle. Recently, acupuncture has been in the news due to the National Institute of Health recognizing it as a proven alternative treatment. Acupuncture can be used in the treatment of numerous health conditions, most of which are related to pain management. Typical ailments reported in literature include neuralgias, headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, tics, spasms, muscular rheumatism, neuralgia of the shoulders and arm, tennis elbow, osteoarthritis, rheumatism, ulcers, stomach problems, diarrhea, hepatitis, asthma, bronchitis, shortness of breath, coughs, certain types of heart trouble, abnormal blood pressures, hemorrhoids, lumbago, bladder irritation, bed wetting, certain kidney problems, female disorders, impotence, glaucoma (sometimes), weak eyesight, hay fever, loss of smell, tonsillitis, loss of hearing, skin conditions, and even nervous and psychiatric factors based on the fact that mental problems often arise from physical disorders. On the average, a very high percentage of patients will respond satisfactory to acupuncture treatment; however, some patients do not respond due to a variety of reasons. Advanced age, severity of condition, irreversible tissue damage, etc., are deterrents to recovery. However, in conjunction with chiropractic, physical therapy, and acupuncture, the odds are very favorable for a good response. Did you know? Over 2,000 health problems can be treated with Acupuncture. *Read this article written by Dr. Seyoung Kim for "BragBook Magazine" in Issue 4: Summer/Fall 2011 An old Chinese proverb states, "Only when one cannot sleep does one know how long the night is." Anyone who's ever experienced an occasional bout with insomnia—and that's most of us—can relate to this all too well. In fact, surveys have shown that between 40 and 60 percent of the general population has trouble sleeping. Daily stress and worries, pressures from job and family, body aches and pains caused by uncomfortable beds or pillows, and a host of other issues can keep a person from getting enough quality sleep. Sleep is critical to good health and functioning, so lack of it is a serious matter. "Sleep is one of the most important functions of the brain," says Frederick R. Carrick, DC, PhD, president of the American Chiropractic Association's Council on Neurology. Through it, our bodies recharge and renew for the next day's challenges. As wellness experts, doctors of chiropractic can provide patients with a different approach to their sleeping problems-without the use of sleeping pills, which leave many people in a mental haze the next morning. To start, here are a few helpful tips they would recommend:
Chiropractic Care Can Help... If you continue to experience pain and discomfort at night or have difficulty falling asleep, visit your doctor of chiropractic. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to treat spinal problems that can interfere with a restful night's sleep. They can also offer nutritional and ergonomic advice that can help improve the quality of your sleep. 2011; American Chiropractic Association, Massachusetts Chiropractic Society at MassChiro.org Bad Posture Equals Bad Health 07/01/2011
Bad posture is a modern day health epidemic that is much worse than most people naturally assume. Posture is the window into your spine. The spine has a powerful relationship with the brain, spinal cord, and overall organ function. This intimate connection means that poor posture and spinal health will lead to an overall decrease in brain and organ function. Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Roger Sperry says that the spine is the motor that drives the brain. According to his research "90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine." Only 10% of our brain's energy goes into thinking, metabolism, immunity, and healing. Sperry demonstrated that 90% of brain energy goes into processing and maintaining the body's relationship with gravity. One of the worst types of health problems people experience is a loss of the natural curves of their spine. Ideally, we should have a 40-45 degree curve in our neck that many chiropractors and neurosurgeons refer to as "the arc of life." This curve helps to protect the brain stem and the spinal canal for the spinal cord and nerves that travel to every region of our body. Subluxation is the term for misalignments of the spine that cause compression and irritation of nerve pathways affecting organ systems of the body. Subluxations can manifest as pain, but since only a small portion of spinal nerves transmit pain sensations they are often unnoticeable by the individual. Losing the arc of life in the neck, forward head posture, and scoliosis are three of the most dangerous forms of subluxation. Subluxation patterns such as forward head posture and loss of the neck curve are most often created by trauma and/or poor posture. Examples of trauma include the birth process (especially with forceps delivery), falls, car accidents, & sporting activities. The typical individual in our society today spends at least 3-4 hours a day slumped in front of a television, computer, and texting cell phone. These behaviors cause the head to shift forward and create a lasting posture pattern called forward head posture. This 'forward head posture' can add up to 30 pounds of abnormal leverage pulling the entire spine out of alignment and may result in the loss of 30% of vital lung capacity," says University of California's director of physical medicine and rehabilitation, Rene Cailliet. Some chiropractors specialize in corrective care techniques that reduce or eliminate forward head posture and restore the natural curves of the body. This is done through gentle & specific adjustments that take pressure off of the brain stem and nerve pathways and enhance function to the body. Studies have shown that corrective based chiropractic care effectively reduces forward head posture and enhances the arc of life. Improve your posture through a chiropractic adjustment! Many severe attacks of back pain develop from something as insignificant as bending over a bathroom sink, reaching to pick up a small item, sneezing, or reaching into a low cabinet. Usually, there has been a series of small accidents leading up to this cause for the back injury. Heavy lifting, falls, or severe strain are early precipitation factors in many back injuries. Most often, they have occurred previously and have been forgotten. Faulty spinal dynamics are often a cause of severe back pain. Faulty spinal alignment, over a period of time, will cause gradual weakening of disc fibers and other ligaments. In this weakened condition, all it takes is a simple movement, such as reaching into the cupboard, for an injury to occur. When such an incident occurs, the following measures should be taken: 1) Lie down immediately in any position that is comfortable. 2) Place a cold pack directly to the area of pain, cover with a towel, and keep the pack in place for 20-30 minutes. (If you do not have a cold pack, you can place 6-10 ice cubes in a plastic bag.) This will hurt at first, but after several minutes the area will be desensitized and you will feel better. Do not remove the pack until 20-30 minutes have elapsed. Reapply the ice as instructed by your doctor. 3) Call your chiropractic doctor and make arrangements to go to the office as soon as possible. In some cases, it may be suggested that you remain at home in bed for a period of time. 4) Do not sit in a recliner of any kind, as this will aggravate the condition. 5) Maintain a positive outlook. Under Chiropractic care, back injury conditions usually respond favorably. However, it takes time, so be patient. Let your doctor of Chiropractic determine what is best for your condition. One of the most beneficial things you can do to prevent a back injury is to routinely seek Chiropractic care, even when feeling good. This is a great way to maintain good health and help correct minor misalignments before they can cause a severe injury! Many Postural Faults Can Be Helped 05/02/2011
The effects of poor posture can be serious in terms of health, comfort, and efficiency, causing fatigue. Many problems can be helped. If you or a member of your family has what appears to be postural problems, you should seek the advise of a chiropractor. Unless there is an anatomical (structural deformity) or pathological (disease-caused) disturbance, the chances for correction are excellent. If not corrected, poor posture can affect the health and well-being of the individual. Poor posture contributes to shallow breathing, a cramped chest cavity, faulty digestion, poor elimination, and poor venous return. Each of which affects not only the functions of individual organs, but also the systems. Lack of energy and reduced coordination are just two of many symptoms of a body that is not functioning efficiently. What are the benefits of correct posture? 1) Improves health. 2) Improves appearance. 3) Improves coordination. 4) Increases strength. 5) Gives more stamina. 6) Allows clothes to fit better. 7) Gives confidence. 8) Gives better body balance and improves agility. 9) Reduces the possiblity for injury. 10) Aids in physcial and mental development. There are many benefits for ensuring correct posture. If a family member, friend, or yourself needs help with obtaining better posture, feel free to contact our office for more information.
